Phillies Opening Day 2011

Come out for the Philadelphia Phillies opening day to see them take on the Houston Astros on Friday, April 1 at 1:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park. The club has one of the best pitchers in the league, Roy Halladay. Halladay or Cliff Lee will be making the start for the Phillies.

Don’t have Tickets? Not to worry. There are some great, warm places to hang out with friends and family to watch the game, get a good meal and some great drinks specials. Here are some suggestions:

McFadden’s at the Ballpark will be hosting the 2011 Phillies Season Kickoff Party on Thursday, March 31. There will be celebrity guest bartenders and $1 Bud Lights from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. And on Friday, April 1, McFadden’s is offering $3 Bud and Bud Light drafts during the game. The Great Chefs Event 2011

The Great Chefs Event is an annual fundraising event that started in 2006 with Philadelphia’s greatest chefs coming together to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in the fight against childhood cancer. The 2011 Great Chefs Event sees the addition of more international great chefs – all to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research and the Vetri Foundation for Children. The Great Chefs Event will be an evening reception, held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, 6-9 p.m. at Urban Outfitters, located at The Navy Yard, 5000 S. Be sure to make your reservations for Main Line Restaurant Week, which goes from Monday, April 4 to Sunday, April 10.

Participating restaurants across the Main Line and Philadelphia’s western suburbs will offer special, prix fixe menus showcasing their chefs’ greatest dishes. Menus will feature discounted, three-course dinners (e.g. appetizer, entrée and dessert) priced at $20, $30, $40 or $50 per person.

Annual Family Fun Fishing Derby at Linvilla

Want a relaxing day of outdoor fun with the family? Head to Linvilla Orchards for their Annual Family Fun Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Transportation to the pond begins at 8 a.m. The cost is $14.99 per fisherman.

Orchard Lake will be stocked with more than 1,000 fish, which means this event’s perfect for kids.  Pole rental and bait are for sale right on site, plus there’s no license needed.

Lucky fishermen who snag a golden trout or tagged fish will win a prize.  And since the contest’s divided into age groups, even your littlest angler might just have it in the bag. Prizes range from trophies to fishing gear to pie and every contestant receives a free cookie from our bakery. And the look on your child’s face when they catch their first fish is priceless, so don’t forget to bring your camera!

All that fishing is sure to make your family hungry, so stop by the Linvilla Grill after the derby for some lunch or the Farm Market for some sweet treats.
